Health in Mind, NHS organisation, East Sussex, UK

In this unique service, I was part of a multi-disciplinary team of counsellors, CBT therapist, psychologists, primary care mental health workers and GPs (medical doctors) whistl worked as psychological practitioner (PWP). My clients were adults (18+) through GP referrals with mild to severe mental health presentations. I provided assessment followed by strategy-focused treatment in the form of well-being courses, face to face consultations, telephone support and guided self-help using specific cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and other types of therapies that help with stress, anger, general anxiety, phobia, panic and low mood (depression) due to difficulties in relationships or money or work. Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS), Richmond, London, UK

I helped with specialised clinical service provision for children and young people with more severe, complex and persistent disorders. The cases were complex and presentations such as general anxiety, panic, phobia OCD, low mood, self-harm presentations were severe. I assessed, managed and monitored risks and put interventions in place for children presenting neurodevelopmental concerns (Aspergers, ADHD, SCD). As I work systematically, I engaged the parents and the wider community of the child (schools) in order to reach the desired change in perception and behaviour. There is a multidisciplinary team in Tier3 service, where I worked closely with child and adolescent psychiatrists, social workers, clinical and counselling psychologists, community psychiatric nurses, child psychotherapists, family therapists. The Richmond generic CAMHS team is part of the South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust offering CYP-IAPT service offering evidence-based and time limited interventions to all.

Woodroffe Family Adolescent and Child Team (CAMHS) Kingston, UK

I helped young people with more severe, complex and persistent mental health problems (OCD, low mood, phobia, self-harm, gender) by providing psychotherapy and consultation to parents around the needs of the young people. I listened stories of young people about their issues around identity, peers, siblings, parents, school, home and community etc. and knew that they were valid concerns which appeared to be, to the wider audience, in a form of a emotional, behavioural or mental health issue. We worked to establish a safer place both externally and internally to increase capability and opportunity to develop the life the young person imagined. We engaged parents and community if/when it was appropriate. Young people had the opportunity to talk their view in a safe place and receive validation, acknowledgement as well as perspectives of others. They and their parents become more confident in communicating needs and developed understanding of each other’s perspectives and motives. The multidisciplinary team I worked together consisted senior clinical psychologists, psychotherapist, psychiatrist and subteams of eating disorders, and neurodevelopmental teams. The Kingston generic CAMHS team is part of the South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust offering CYP-IAPT service to all.

Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service in Schools (TAMHS), Merton & Mitcham, London, UK

As a School counsellor I worked parallel in five different schools with children presenting mild to moderate emotional, behavioural difficulties in school-setting offering specialist assessment and interventions. The main purpose of the role was to deliver CAMHS services in the community with the preventative focus, to develop a wider understanding of emotional and social well-being within the whole organisation and in the wider community related to the organisation. I managed individual cases where I helped to explore and unfold presented difficulties. I carried out observations in the classrooms leading to consultation and direct assessment of the students, his/her parents and teachers with the aim of changing perception as well as providing consultations on psycho-education and behavioural management. Once I had a plan in place with teachers, parents and child working together, we worked towards to solve the problem or I made referral to CAMHS or signposted parents to request services appropriate to current needs. The Tier 2 community service is part of the South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust offering triage and referral service to all.

Kontyfa Primary, Secondary and Vocational School, Budapest, Hungary

I worked as a school psychologist / school counsellor on early intervention which builds on existing networks, partnership working, services and provision in place. To work directly with the school as an organisation to build staff capacity and give them the confidence to provide appropriate support to children & young people who have become of a concern within school.
I worked from the students, through the staff, teachers, parents and management. I also developed new models such as established open door policy to individual consultations, virtual platform to promote and established the routine of the weekly social skills development workshop for classrooms. These services are all still running long after I left.
Students interested in psychology even watched the movie Treatment under my guidance. I held workshop for teachers and staff on anti-bullying. I instructed yoga classes to students and teachers mixed. I organised and co-run 2-day expedition using Outward Bound, experiential education methodology. The purpose of these initiatives were opportunities to raise awareness, sensitise and promote psychological well-being-to break the stigma.
